Conversation Hearts

I sit beside a cup of hot tea
Watching the clouds sift icing sugar
Over the city landscape turned Candyland-scape
With a bag of conversation hearts

The calendar turns a page
And suddenly everyone has a sweet tooth
I breathe in a tendril of spicy vanilla chai steam
And open the bag of conversation hearts

I pinch the corner and tug upwards
And watch the pastel coloured confectioneries
Spill eagerly over my tabletop
Sweet, giggling conversation hearts

I smile back at them, remembering
Sparkling eyes and knowing smiles
Sleepovers and fantasy worlds and us
All thanks to conversation hearts

The sweetest hearts I've ever known
Taught me that love comes in all colours
Equally sweet and sincere
Like conversation hearts

So this is for you, my angels
I wish only the best for you
And I hope together forever is true
Because I miss your conversation hearts

And of course my thoughts
Would not be complete without you
The mere mention of your name brings to life
A thousand conversation hearts

Like the draft outside my window
Sends snowflakes flurrying into the minty winter air
You have the the same effect on the
Heartbeats of conversation hearts

As they flutter back down to reality
I line them up in chronological order
Your words diffuse through my chest
And bond like the text on conversation hearts

My fingertips graze the candied crossroads
And bring your words to life
I realize the journey is worth far more
Than individual conversation hearts

And as the afternoon fades to evening
I find the answers to all my questions
Mapped out on my tabletop
In the simplicity of conversation hearts

I push back my chair just in time to see
A pair of shooting stars streak through the sky
Leaving a trail of pixels behind
A dotted line of conversation hearts

Standby

You life is in fast-forward,
While I'm on standby.
I'm standing here, useless
While you struggle and try

It's like I'm trapped in a box
Made out of glass
Where I can only watch
As the days by you pass

I hold out my hands
By they can't reach
And you can't see my horror
As you fall to your knees

I have a million words to offer you
A million things to say
But I am held captive
And you slowly turn away

Yet I remain here, a friend to you
To remind you, if you forgot
That our friendship and support
For you betray you not

There is a light behind you
But you face the shadows cast
Please, won't you look to the light
And leave darkness to the past?

Dear friend, the time has come
For me to rest my pen
But I'll leave for you a blank sheet
Start your story new again

My Wish

1: You inspired me to write this, as you have inspired me for so many other things. It's hard to think that these years have pulled us so far away from where we started, but I still think of you as the same person I met way back in the day and I still hold your friendship as close to my heart as I did then. I wish you the best; I always have. My wish for you is that this life becomes all that you want it to.

2: I'm so glad I've gotten a chance to get to know you. I thought that we were unimaginably different, but I stand corrected. You are so genuine, and I love that. In a world where trust is hard to come by and harder to give away, I'm humbled that you placed your trust in my hands. You have certainly earned mine. Don't ever lose that poet inside you, and believe in yourself; you will get through this. You're not alone tonight, there's more than moonlight that surrounds you.  It will be alright, just believe.

3: I never thought I'd ever find a friend like you. We disagree, we're stubborn, and we fight, but in the end I know you'll always be there for me, no matter what. You know me better than anyone else. You've had your ups and downs, and you know how it feels to want to give up and throw it all away. But whatever you do, I will support you, because I know you have so much potential and so much spirit, and I hope you live that one to the fullest. One day when the sky is falling, I will be standing right next to you.
